As someone who loves reptiles and exotics, I know how important it is to keep these animals entertained and stimulated. After all, they may not have the same social needs as cats or dogs, but they still need to have fun and enjoy their environment.
So, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite fun activities for reptiles and exotics:
1. Trick training
Yes, you read that right! Just like dogs, reptiles and exotics can be trained to do tricks. It’s a great way to bond with your pet and keep them mentally stimulated. For example, you can train your bearded dragon to wave, your chameleon to climb onto your hand, or your hedgehog to roll over. All it takes is patience, consistency, and some yummy treats as rewards.
2. Tunnels and hides
Reptiles and exotics love to explore, and adding tunnels and hides to their enclosure can provide them with a fun and safe space to do so. You can use PVC pipe, cardboard boxes, or even build your own custom hideout. Just make sure it’s big enough for your pet to move around comfortably and doesn’t have any sharp edges that could harm them.
3. Puzzle feeders
Another way to keep your reptile or exotic entertained is by using puzzle feeders. These are toys that require your pet to work for their food, such as hiding crickets in a maze or placing mealworms in a puzzle box. Not only does it keep them busy, but it also helps to stimulate their natural hunting instincts.
4. Enrichment activities
Enrichment activities are anything that adds variety to your pet’s daily routine. This can include rearranging their enclosure, adding new toys or plants, or even taking them outside for some supervised exploration time. Remember, the key is to keep things interesting and engaging for your pet.
